A CYCLIST suffered a fractured skull after a collision with a motorbike in Carrington.

The two collided shortly after 9pm on May 20, as the cyclist was travelling along Carrington Lane – 200 from the entrance to Acres Farm Cottage, close to the junction with Flixton Road.

The 44-year-old male cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries, having suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg. He is now said to be in a stable condition.

The 42-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was later released.

The road was closed while the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) carried out its investigations.

Police now want to trace a car which drove through the closure at speed and then nearly crashed into a police officer.

At around 11pm, a silver BMW approached the cordon at the junction with Flixton Road and Carrington Lane and drove through the road closure at speed.

An officer, who was in the road investigating the collision, indicated for the driver to stop.

The car then stopped and reversed into the driveway of Acres Farm Cottage to do a three point turn and then drove back the way it came – almost colliding with the officer in the process.

Police are appealing for information about this incident and the earlier collision.

PC Ian Milligan, from the SCIU, said: “We are urging anyone who saw the collision between the bicycle and the motorbike, or who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, to get in touch.

“Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver of the silver BMW, registration Y431 TBY, if you saw the incident happen or have seen this car please call police.”
