THE PEACE in Partington was disturbed by a series of explosions recently.
The detonations were set off by contractors who are dismantling four landmark National Grid gas tanks.
The demolition contractors, Masterton, carried out a series of detonations to remove the tops of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks, allowing them to then strip the metal structures from top to bottom.
Masterton insisted it had taken steps to alert residents about the explosions - writing to them, and alerting ward councillors, the council and emergency services.
But a resident told Messenger he was caught off guard.
He said: "We were left wondering what had happened."
There will be explosions on two more days this month as they continue the work of dismantling the tanks. Further details on freephone 0800 319 6162.
