ST Ambrose College students were licking their lips after a French Day celebrated the finer things in life from the other side of the Channel.

Boys throughout the Hale Barns school studied French culture and customs in class and were then treated to a special French lunch menu consisting of Tarte Flambee, Chicken Chasseur and Crepes Chocolat.

Francophile Johnny Lavin, 13, from Stretford, wants to study Languages, and approved of the new menu. “I have visited France a few times with my family and I love the weather, food and friendly people.”

St. Ambrose College Deputy Head and French teacher Phil Howard said: “Studying a modern foreign language isn't just about learning how to converse, but immersing yourself in their culture and understanding another country's great traditions.

“Cookery is one France's greatest gifts to the world and although British cuisine has improved, the ordinary French man or woman in the street still eats more interestingly and more healthily than we do in Great Britain.”
