WENDY Verber from Hale was one of a group of models who took to the catwalk on Wednesday 26 July to help the charity Prevent Breast Cancer.

The fashion show, which took place at Spire Manchester Hospital’s new building in Didsbury, raised nearly £2,000.

All twelve women on the catwalk have either fought breast cancer in the past or are still receiving treatment.

52-year-old Wendy said: “Five years ago, I thought I was at the end of a very short life, but here I am, a survivor. I was up on that catwalk with 11 other brave women who have all lived to tell their tales too but, unfortunately, it’s not like that for everyone.

“While the night was certainly lots of fun, it was so important for raising awareness about breast cancer prevention, while raising funds that will go towards the charity’s groundbreaking research projects. These projects will ultimately help reduce the number of women who are diagnosed or who die from the disease each year, so I’m honoured to have taken part.”

The fashion event presented a set of summer designs from Fuzzy Goose Boutique, a retailer with a showroom in Cheadle Hulme which sells clothing, jewellery, gifts and accessories.

It was sponsored by Spire, and hosted by Laura Finn from Prevent Breast Cancer. Lester Barr the Chairman of the charity and a Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Spire and the Christie Hospitals gave the keynote speech.

Lester said: “Around one in nine women and one in 1,000 men will develop breast cancer, with 55,000 people diagnosed each year. We simply want to reduce these figures, but the only way we can do that is through research. As a charity, we receive no government funding, so fundraising events like these are crucial if we’re to continue working towards a breast cancer-free future.”

Prevent Breast Cancer, formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, is the UK’s only charity entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.
