WOMEN are being encouraged to leave their worries at the turnstiles and join Altrincham FC fans in the stands.

Altrincham FC supporter Jacqui Forster has started a new initiative called Women at the Game.

The idea is for women to attend sporting events together to encourage them to feel comfortable and confident about doing so.

It will be nationwide but the pilot is taking place at Altrincham Football club this Saturday, January 7, at the Altrincham FC v Gloucester City.

Jacqui, from Hale, hopes the initiative will develop into other sports.

She said: “The idea is to avoid fear of entering a stadium alone and provide opportunities for women to meet prior to the game and enter the stadium and then to watch the game together.”

The group will meet at The Little Deli Company, on the corner of Stamford Park Road and Beech Road, at 2pm on Saturday.

The women will walk together to the game, in time for the 3pm kick-off. Altrincham FC has reserved seats in the Family Stand for the group. Gate price is £15 or £10 for any women over 60 years old.
