ELEVEN members of Friendship Force International joined members of the Greater Manchester Friendship Force for a one week stay last week. Most were hosted by families in Altrincham and Sale.

They consisted of eight Australians and three Americans.

Their exchange director, Dennis McLean from Brisbane, said: “Everyone was happy with their hosts and enjoyed the official visits to Manchester, Chester and Styal Mill as well as private visits to places such as York, Llandudno and Dunham Hall."

Denise Huntley, from Central Coast, who was staying with Moira and Alan Percival from Hale said: “I was born in Kent, and went to Australia as an 11-year-old £10 Pom. I have never been to Manchester before.

“My vision of the area was industrial but today we visited Lymm, sat in the sunshine and had a wonderful day.”

Christine Lucas, also from Brisbane, stayed with Christine Pidcock, also from Hale.

She said: “I was in Manchester in 2000 but there is a lot more work going on now with the Metro, etc. Quarry Bank Mill was interesting. It was a step back in time.”

Hazel Ross, from Central Coast, enjoyed hospitality from Barrie Kerr from Timperley. She said: “I have enjoyed everything, not just the places we have seen but the people we have met.

“If I came to live here I would like to live in Altrincham. I love the trees and the parks.”

Jo Ann Bosse ( known as J.C.) from Minnesota, USA, hosted by Sylvia Nicholson from Bowdon, enjoyed visiting Chester because of its history.

“I have stayed with the world’s best host,” she said.
