BANDS are stepping up to the mic in Altrincham in a bid to combat homelessness.

Musicians Against Homelessness (MAH) has been launched by former Oasis manager Alan McGee and will raise cash for homeless charity Crisis.

Gigs are due to take place across the UK, with unsigned local artists headlining.

Music fan Angela Moore volunteered to lead the Altrincham leg of the campaign and has secured The Cinnamon Club in Bowdon for Friday September 30.

Musicians from the area have offered to perform, including The Replicants, who are reforming after a ten year hiatus, Ryan Jarvis, who has supported The Courteeners at Manchester Apollo, and Liam McClair, who recently supported Echo and The Bunnymen.

Angela said she was inspired to get involved as the plight of homelessness is a cause close to her heart.

“I am not a gig or venue promoter just a regular music fan who has a desire to help in whatever small way I can,” she said.

“We are sadly seeing the effects of homelessness ourselves now in Altrincham, Hale, Timperley, Sale etc. This is why I wanted to hold the events in Altrincham.

“The perception is that is it just a city centre issue but that is not the case. It would be wonderful if the people of Altrincham can get behind us as it is such a worthy cause.”

The gig is particularly special as it will see The Replicants performing as a band for the first time in ten years.

Leader singer Adam Shearer said: “Obviously Musicians Against Homelessness is a great cause so when the opportunity arose, to get involved, it was a no-brainer. Personally, it just felt like a good time to do a gig.

"We listened to some old demos and fell in love with the songs again. My uncle Doug was always bringing events for unsigned bands to my attention but they never triggered my enthusiasm. But for some reason, MAH came along at a time when we all felt we could commit and do ourselves proud.”

All proceeds from the ticket sales and raffle will go to Crisis UK.
