THE Griffin pub, Stamford Road, Bowdon, is looking to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support with a book swap event, launching over the August bank holiday weekend.

The aim is to encourage customers to bring their old books along, and swap them for a new read. The Chef & Brewer pub is looking to Bowdon residents to donate old books that have been gathering dust on the shelf for years, and for every book donated, another can be taken home for a suggested donation of £1. Cake and refreshments will also be available to those donating books over the weekend.

Malcolm Quilliam, general manager at the Griffin, said: “We know our guests love a good book, but we wondered how often they get to read it a second time? We thought if we could encourage Bowdon residents to swap their well-read novels for something new to get lost in, and raise money for Macmillan in the process, it’d be a brilliant event.

“We will also be taking part in the traditional Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser in September, but we are calling on the public to join Chef & Brewer over the bank holiday weekend to raise as much money as we can for Macmillan Cancer Support!”

The book swap is part of a three year campaign by Chef & Brewer pubs to raise money for Macmillan. The book swap will continue to run after the August bank holiday weekend, and is one of many activities lined up across the country in the lead up to Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which will take place in September.
