HALE resident Janice Moss was honoured at a long service awards ceremony held by the Christie.

Janice received an award for providing over 10 years' continuous volunteering service to the specialist cancer centre in Withington.

She was among more than 30 members of staff and volunteers to be recognised for collectively dedicating more than 670 years to the hospital.

Janice, who has provided more than 10 years continuous volunteering service, decided to become a volunteer as a way of giving something back to the Christie after she was treated here for breast cancer 20 years ago.

She said: “I do whatever volunteering is needed when I’m here at the Christie. That can mean directing patients, helping out with administrative tasks or working in the May Draper tea bar.

"I really enjoy the time I spend volunteering, I’ve met some wonderful people and it is a very rewarding thing to do. I also enjoy fundraising for the charity and am the chairperson of the Altrincham and Sale fundraising group for The Christie.

“To receive this award is a lovely gesture. I don’t need thanks for doing this job as it is my pleasure to be able to give back to the hospital that saved my life, but it is wonderful to be acknowledged for the work I do.”

Chief Executive at the Christie, Roger Spencer, said: “It makes us very proud to recognise the long–standing support and hard work of so many of our staff and volunteers.

"That level of continuity is vital in helping us progress our services and our patients benefit massively from their dedication. They all thoroughly deserve this recognition.”

Around 300 volunteers currently help at the Christie doing a range of jobs including giving out library books on the wards, escorting patients and visitors to different departments and serving refreshments.
