A GARDEN is to be opened in memory of a little boy from Bowdon Vale.

Work is progressing on the memorial garden, 10 months after Bowdon Church School pupil Isaac Maley died at the age of 10, after suffering a severe asthma attack.

The community of Bowdon and Hale is rallying together to create 'Isaac's Garden' at the Bowdon school, where Isaac was about to start his final year when he died.

But more help and support is needed - including donations, and support from companies that can help with materials, their time and expertise.

Isaac's mum, Vicky, said: "I think Isaac's Garden will be a place of reflection - a wonderful space for children and adults to have time out. A place to think about things and calm down. A place to have a cry or even shout. A place to let your feelings out.

"A place that will listen to you and allow you to be yourself.

"Adults find it hard to deal with a child's grief, especially teachers. They find it hard to know what to say or are even scared to say the wrong thing. This garden will help them massively."

Friends and family have already been helping with digging, planting and fundraising, but appeal organisers want to hear from others who can pitch in.

Headteacher Sharon Martin said: “In a world of increasing demands and distractions for children, having the opportunity for a few minutes of quiet reflection in a beautiful place will be a precious gift that we can provide.

"Of course, going forward, I am sure that the garden will become an important place for all children; a place where they can seek comfort and strength.”

The garden has been designed by landscape gardener and school mum Helen Buckley. At its centre, Isaac’s Garden features his classmate’s thoughts and memories, depicted in a colourful mosaic.

In April, a celebrity football match held in Isaac's memory at Altrincham's J Davidson Stadium raised £34,000 for the Once Upon a Smile charity.
