ALTRINCHAM mums have rallied together in their fight for Felix – a five-year-old Bowdon boy with a rare muscle wasting disease – raising an incredible £40,000 in just one night.

Felix Kuhwald, a reception pupil at St Vincent’s Primary School, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) at the tender age of two.

DMD is a fatal genetic disease that causes the muscles to weaken and waste away. There is currently no cure for DMD and it affects just 2,500 boys in the UK.

A group of mums, known as Team Felix, organised an event to raise money for Joining Jack, a charity that was established to research and develop a treatment or cure for DMD.

‘Felix’s Fiesta’ was held at Bowdon Rugby Club and attended by 250 guests. Music was provided by Britain’s Got Talent’s Henry Gallagher, The Likks and Boom Box and guests enjoyed a three-course meal by Paddock Catering. There was also an auction, a silent auction and a raffle.

All in all, the event raised an astonishing £40,000 for Joining Jack.

Felix’s mum, Lisa Kuhwald, said: “It really is a race against time to get Felix, and other little boys, the treatment they need before it’s too late. We have a lot of hope. Currently treatments for DMD are in laboratories or clinics. Vital funds are needed to start clinical trials and enable those treatments to reach the boys.

“Felix’s Fiesta was our way of raising money for Joining Jack. We are overwhelmed by the tremendous support and generosity of those who arranged and attended the event and are thrilled to have raised a staggering £40,000.”
