SUNRISE Senior Living of Hale Barns recently saluted its oldest resident, as Lillian Barrow turned 104.

Lillian, born in Sale two years before the First World War began, drank champagne with her family and with carers and friends at the care home in Hale Barns.

The celebrations on January 26 also included a surprise hamper from Booths supermarket. Last year, Lillian was on hand to officially open the Hale Barns store, and the general manager popped by to join in the fun.

She has lived at Sunrise for two and a half years.

Before retirement, Lillian worked as a secretary, and she and her husband enjoyed a long career with Shell. Through this role, Lillian became very well-travelled. She has lived in a number of exotic locations including Trinidad and Borneo, and was also an outstanding bridge player.

Lillian has five grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

Asked about the secret to her longevity, Lillian advised 'determination and dark chocolate'.

Sunrise of Hale Barns director of community relations, Lorraine Fitzpatrick, said “Lillian is a wonderful resident and she a delight to be around.

"She looks amazing for 104 and has had such a fascinating life. We all greatly enjoyed celebrating another birthday with her at Sunrise.”
