A HALE girl who walked five miles to raise money for a pony sanctuary where she volunteers has raised nearly £1,500.

Mia Siddall, who completed the walk on August 31 in aid of the Hasty Lane Horse and Pony Sanctuary, was only hoping to raise £500, but was besieged by donations after her story appeared in Messenger.

The Hale Prep pupil even received a donation from popstar and Strictly Come Dancing contestant,Pixie Lott.

The money will pay off a £500 vets bill incurred by the sanctuary after one of its horses needed treatment for laminitis, an illness which causes acute pain in the horse's hooves.

Mia's mum Karen Siddall said: "It was a lovely afternoon – with some aching feet afterwards – and the total figure raised from Mia’s walk currently stands at £1,447 with some more donations promised this week.

"This amount raised is absolutely amazing and clears the vet fees with plenty left for food and supplies.

"Mia is absolutely delighted and is already planning her next fundraiser."
