THE family of a little girl who died suddenly at just 18-months-old have donated £30,000 to the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, following a gala dinner with celebrity entrepreneur Theo Paphitis.

Rebecca and Lee Feddy, from Hale, set up A Smile for Orly after they lost their baby daughter, Orly Babette Feddy in December 2012.

Inspired by the little girl’s bright smile and happy disposition, her bereaved parents embarked upon a fundraising campaign designed to both help and bring happiness to other children.

‘Orly's Evening With Theo Paphitis’ was held at the Lowry Hotel. The evening raised £45,000 overall, with the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital receiving £30,000 while the remaining £15,000 will go to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The family's fundraising will support Manchester Royal Eye Hospital’s Bicentenary Appeal – ‘200 for 200’, celebrating 200 years of the prestigious hospital by aiming to raise at least £200,000 to improve facilities in the children’s outpatient clinic.

Sarah Naismith, head of charities for the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, said: “A Smile for Orly have raised a fantastic amount of money at Orly’s Evening, and we are so thankful to Rebecca and Lee for their support. Manchester Royal Eye Hospital’s Bi-Centenary celebrations aim to capture the great work that the hospital does in treating and researching eye conditions.”

The donation that A Smile for Orly have made to Manchester Royal Eye Hospital will go directly to support research and state of the art equipment which will have a huge impact on the experiences of our young patients.”

Rebecca Feddy said: 'What better gift to give a child but sight?

“When we heard about the vital new equipment in helping to diagnose paediatric eye conditions; A smile for Orly were delighted to support this worthy cause.”
