The Rotary Club of Altrincham has just celebrated its 88th Charter (birthday).

A celebratory event, was held at the Cresta Court Hotel Altrincham where over 100 people sat down to a four course meal including soup starter, roast beef, apple tart followed by cheese and biscuits.

Adam Partridge, one of the UK’s best known auctioneers and valuers of antiques and fine art, who has appeared as an antiques expert and auctioneer on numerous antiques television programmes including Flog It, Bargain Hunt, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Cash In the Attic was the main speaker at the event.

He spoke to the guests of funny moments and times where people did find a small fortune in their attic much to his and their delight.

President, Stephen McHugh was delighted with the evening and the support they received, in particular from several other local Rotary Clubs: “ Having been President for over six months I can honestly say that I have had very busy schedule but have thoroughly enjoyed all events especially this Charter. Altrincham Rotary Club members are very active and could be seen collecting money for local causes and supporting other events."

The club was formed in 1929 and has had a long and distinguished existence providing help and assistance not only locally but worldwide. This includes the End of Polio which has been running since 1979 - there is now only two countries where there has been an outbreak and this would be the final year when polio is eradicated.

More locally, the Club involves itself with schools, clubs and helps collect toys and tins and at Christmas. They also help with the Salvation Army appeal to collect over 3000 toys for needy families in the area.

The next fundraiser will be to celebrate St George's Day at the Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham on Monday April 23.
