THE Rotary Club of Altrincham has had a great start to its 'toys n tins appeal' for the Salvation Army.

The Christmas boxes in various locations are now starting to fill with toys and tinsof food, thanks to the support of the public and their donations to this cause.

The appeal aims to collect 3000 new toys, which must be new and unwrapped, for children aged up to 18-years-old. They will be distributed throughout Trafford and surrounding areas in time for Christmas.

The toys and tins are now being collected by the Rotary Club members from the various Christmas boxes located in Altrincham including Marks and Spencer food hall and ladies department.

On George Street the Salvation Army shop, Boots, Rackhams first floor café, Randalls jewellers and Wilkos store have collection points.

There are also boxes are at Luxistore and Bocadillos café, Timperley; and Ashbrooks furniture store and the Salvation Army shop, both in Washway Road, Sale.

The toys will be sorted into different age categories and delivered to needy families in time for Christmas. The tins of food can include treats such as biscuit, tins of sweets and other festive cheer.

Rachel Steward, from the Salvation Army in Sale, said: "The Rotary Club of Altrincham give us great help in this event which goes to help numerous families who may otherwise not have such an enjoyable time."

* COURTESY of the Rotary Club, Santa will be making another appearance in Altrincham on Saturday, December 2 at The House bar and restaurant, Goose Green from 12-4pm where there will be mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Santa will also wave off the Lantern Parade, starting from Goose Green at 4pm with lots of children who will parade with their lanterns from Goose Green past Tesco onto Moss Lane then into Stamford New Road,t urn right into Regents Road and then right again along the length of George Street finishing at approximately 5pm in Stamford Square outside Rackhams.
