A CONTEST has highlighted that many front gardens in Altrincham are looking blooming lovely.

Skipton Building Society’s Altrincham branch teamed up with Altrincham In Bloom to launch the ‘Gorgeous Garden Awards’ this year, aimed at encouraging residents in the WA14 and WA15 postcode to enhance their front gardens.

All entries were secretly assessed by Altrincham In Bloom volunteers throughout August and September and successful entrants received a ‘Gorgeous Garden’ certificate. They were also entered into a grand draw, and the winner was drawn at random.

Winner John Tompson of Rutland Road in Altrincham, who claims he has never won anything before in his life, was the lucky winner of £250 in National Garden Gift vouchers.

Sarah Walmsley, chairman of Altrincham In Bloom, said: “A beautiful front garden is an asset to home owners, the local community, ecology and wildlife.

"We actively support residents who want their neighbourhoods to look attractive and can be contacted via our website www.altrinchaminbloom.org.uk if they need advice or would like to help out in some way.”

Sue Keating-Millington, the manager of Skipton’s Altrincham branch, said: “We’ve been delighted with the public’s response to our inaugural Gorgeous Garden Awards.

“We all benefit from brightening and enhancing our neighbourhoods.

"Altrincham In Bloom is doing a grand job in the town and we wanted to support their efforts by encouraging residents to do their bit too.

"From what we have seen, local residents are a talented bunch who clearly enjoy making their gardens gorgeous, not only for themselves but for everyone who passes by.”
