AT an inaugural service at St Margaret’s church on Saturday, the Deputy Lords Baron Steward for Dunham Massey, Alderman Mark Rae, announced that the first President of the Guild of Freemen of Altrincham would be former Provost, Alderman Denise Laver.

Alderman Rae gave a talk about the Altrincham Charter and Alderman Laver read from the bible and recited a new poem reflecting civic pride, Our Town.

Church member, Robert Gledhill, sang What a Wonderful World.

Later, at an Altrincham Charter dinner attended by the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Jonathan Coupe and members of Courts Leet and Guilds from around the country, members and guests enjoyed a four course meal followed by dancing to the charity band, Loose Change.

The secret of the Greater Altrincham Pudding created by the Delaney sisters was revealed to be a glorious mix of cream and fresh fruit.

Among seven toasts proposed were toasts to the Mayors of Altrincham and Trafford, the Guild of Freemen of Altrincham and the Freemen and Guilds of England and Wales.
