POLICE are hunting a doorstep conman who tricked a 94-year-old man into forking out £220 for an ‘extremely unsafe’ chimney – before fleeing with the cash.
The vulnerable pensioner was targeted by the bogus workman at his house in Brown Street, Altrincham, recently.
The fraudster knocked on and advised the elderly victim that his chimney was extremely unsafe and said he would fix it for him.
The victim handed over £220 before the thief ran away and never came back.
The man police are looking for is described as white, in his 50s, 5ft 7”, of average build, with grey hair and a slight Scottish accent.
A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “Please warn your family members and friends, particularly elderly and vulnerable people.”
Anyone with information about this incident or similar occurrences should contact Altrincham Police Station on 0161 856 7530, 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
