ALTRINCHAM VS Cancer has been named as one of the most successful fundraisers in March by JustGiving - the global online social platform for charitable fundraising.

Altrincham VS Cancer was in the top three per cent of the 35,941 fundraisers using the site after raising £2,180 on behalf of the cancer charity The Christie,

Since it was started in 2014, Altrincham VS Cancer has raised nearly £10,000 for Christie’s Hospital.

Started in 2014 by Altrincham HQ in collaboration with Pure Gym, Altrincham vs Cancer has become a key event in the Altrincham fundraising calendar. Twenty-eight businesses and community groups take to the treadmills of Pure Gym - each team running 5000km in the fastest time possible to run a combined 140,000 kilometres

The event has become a real community affair as organiser Alex McCann explains: "Each year we have a core of businesses that get involved and want to raise as much money as possible for the Christie.”

Local businesses involved include Burrito Picante, The Cheshire Tap, Eat Kaizen, Smart Storage NW and Sugar Junction.

The event has serious fitness benefits for the participants. Alex said: “ In the 4 years we've been organising this we've seen runners shave 10 minutes of their times and our fastest runner this year, Dan Martell, managed to complete his run in an outstanding 17 minutes 22 seconds.”

As always though, the goal is to raise as much money as possible for The Christie.

"The fight against cancer is an important one and I hope that the impact of Altrincham VS Cancer is not just the money we raise at this event each year - but that it encourages other local businesses and individuals to fundraise for the Christie as well"

The Christie, the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe, treats more than 44,000 patients a year.
