MOTORISTS are being warned of closures of the A556 at the start of next week - followed by a full 56-hour closure at the weekend.

Starting on Monday, February 27, there will be a five day closure of the A556 northbound, from Mere to Bowdon roundabout overnight (9pm to 5am).

The A556 southbound will be also closed from Bowdon roundabout to Bucklow Hill overnight (9pm to 5am) during the same period.

The M56 junction 7 eastbound and westbound exit slip roads will be closed, as will the M56 junction 8 and the junction 7 eastbound access slip.

A56 Lymm Road to Dunham Road will be controlled by traffic signals allowing access from Lymm to Altrincham and vice versa.

These works will end on Friday.

At the weekend, another full 56 hour closure will be in place on the existing A556.  This will run from 9pm next Friday night, March 3, until 5am on Monday morning, March 6.

The closures are to allow for the final stages of construction on the £192 million A556 Knutsford to Bowdon dual carriageway.

Highways England, which is building the new link road between junction 19 of the M6 at Knutsford and junction 7 of the M56 at Bowdon, expect to open the new road on March 6.
