RESEARCHERS who are collating details about all those from Cheshire who died in the two World Wars are holding an open day at Altrincham Library on February 11.

Everyone is welcome to the event but organisers would particularly like to meet residents who may have pictures or information on anyone from Altrincham or Cheshire.

They are working on a the Cheshire County Memorial Project, which aims to create the largest single source Roll of Honour to all those from the county who gave their lives in both World Wars.

The Roll is based on pre-1974 county boundary changes.

A website has now been created which lists around 24,000 from the Great War and 6,000 from the Second World War. Each person is being researched, and 5,000 of these have so far been completed.

Funding has also been awarded by the Manchester Airport Community Fund for a book on the Fallen of Altrincham in the Great War 1914-18. The book is due to be published in the spring.

The open day at Altrincham Library takes place from 10.15am to 3pm. All welcome.

Stephen Benson, a trustee for the Cheshire County Memorial Project said: "This is a huge project with no end date, we will be looking to add to the site for many years."
