AN open day was held at Altrincham's Oldfield Brow Primary School to mark the completion of a major building project.

Over the past two years pupils and staff at the school have had building work going on around them after plans were passed to enlarge the school to become a two-form entry school.

The enlarged school was completed for the beginning of the new school year.

Just before Christmas the school held an open day to show parents around the school.

Parents joined in with lessons, had a grand indoor picnic and then took in a 'grand tour' of more than 20 new rooms spanning three floors.

That was followed by the official opening, which was attended by the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Judith Lloyd, councillors and past Mayors.

Also present were many former pupils of the school, the president of Altrincham Rotary Club, Stephen Woods; and the Provost of Altrincham, Burgess Alan Laver - himself an old boy of the school.

Derek Carden, who attended the school in April 1933 - only months after the school opened its doors for the first time on August 31, 1932 - Dorothy Davies, affectionally known as Didie by past pupils, who had been involved with the school in some capacity for more than 50 years and the school's youngest pupil, three-year-old Eddie, who attends the school nursery, cut the ribbon in the school hall.

The headteacher, Bob Merrell, divided those present into the new part of the school if they were part of the present Oldfield Brow story and the older visitors in the old part, thereby looking back and towards the future.
