ALTRINCHAM Court Leet’s Community Carol Service held at St Margaret’s Church last Thursday and conducted by the Rev Jerry Sutton, radiated with the spirit of Christmas.

Addressing the congregation, the Provost of Altrincham, Burgess Alan Laver, referred to people who suffered from bombing and chemical weapons.

Unlike us, they would not wake to clean water, food and medicine if needed.

He urged people to find ways of helping those who did not share our privileges.

The angel that paraded down the aisle in semi-darknesss, the dancers from Altrincham Methodist Church, young people from the air cadets and the Jabberwoks, the youth branch of Hale Civic Society, all contributed to the atmosphere.

The highlight of the service was the choir from Oldfield Brow Primary School who, under the direction of their head teacher, Mr Merrell sang Angel Gabriel, Sing Calypso Carol and the 12 days of Christmas.

Azhar Rasul of Altrincham Islamic Centre gave a universal greeting of peace, and readings were made by Rev Danny Crosby, the Court Leet chaplain from Atrincham Unitarian Chapel and Alderman David Eastwood from the Court Leet.

Proceeds of the collection went to St Margaret’s Church and from the raffle to the Provost’s charities, the British Heart Foundation and Send a Child to Hucklow.
