RESIDENTS have hit out at the rubbish strewn state of a main walkway into Altrincham.

They are disgusted that there are overflowing bins on the bridge at Goose Green.

The reckon it undermines efforts to upgrade the town.

They are also concerned about health risks.

But Trafford Council's contractor firm, Amey, says it is unable to remove them as they are not Trafford Council bins, but those of a private company.

A resident said: "After Trafford spending money renovating the area, it has been spoilt by piles of rubbish and overflowing bins on the bridge."

A council spokesperson said: "Trafford Council’s environmental improvement team is investigating this issue in Goose Green, and will continue to monitor the area.

"Keeping our streets and public areas clean is a priority, and as a council we are working with residents and businesses to help raise awareness of the importance of this and to encourage everyone to Be Responsible.”
