A CYCLIST was aghast that several cars boldly ran a red light on a busy Timperley road – but is it any wonder?
Darren Marsden sent this photo in of traffic lights on Stockport Road almost completely obscured by trees on June 30.
What’s worse, half of a sign directly behind the traffic lights stating which lane motorists should get into is blocked out by the trees.
Darren said: "I was shocked to see these cars going through red, more so after the spate of accidents that have happened in Trafford in recent times.
“Having got a closer look, I found the lights were covered in branches and no one in that left hand lane could see anything, only when I got into the middle lane could I see anything.
“I will be contacting the council to get this issue sorted out and make sure that no further issues with trees blocking the lights happen at this junction."
The Messenger contacted One Trafford, the partnership between Trafford Council and contractor Amey.
A spokesperson said that the maintenance of hedges in question are the responsibility of the private landowner but that, due to serious risk to drivers, One Trafford will be cutting the overgrowth.
One Trafford have contacted the landowner with regards to the issue.
