INSPECTORS have given Trafford's hospitals the thumbs-up for the quality of care they provide.

Both Trafford General and Altrincham Hospital received a 'Good' rating following inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

At both Trafford General and Altrincham, the CQC commended the staff on their commitment to providing outstanding compassionate care to their patients.

Also noted was the radiography rapid reporting service which supports the Urgent Care Centre at Trafford General and the Minor Injuries Unit at Altrincham Hospital.

Other areas of outstanding practice noted at Trafford General include:

• Multidisciplinary work with other agencies to manage frequently attending patients.

• Collaborative working with AGE UK, the Stroke Association and Trafford Carers’ Association.

• Patient tracker system and ‘tell us today’ initiatives to improve patient experience feedback.

Altrincham Hospital was praised for a training programme and competency assessment for renal patients who want to dialyse at home, supported by advice and support.

The hospitals are managed by Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the inspectors were particularly impressed with the high standard of clinical care delivered by all the trust's teams and the willingness to report and learn when things went wrong. the trust received an overall 'Good' rating.

CMFT chairman, Steve Mycio, said: "The report is an acknowledgement of the tremendous commitment, dedication and hard work shown by all of our staff to delivering the highest quality patient care.

"We can all be proud of this fantastic achievement and we will build on this and strive for even better in the future. I am so proud to be a part of this organisation which is delivering such excellent care to the people of Manchester and beyond.”

Mr Mycio has just been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for voluntary and charitable services to health and wellbeing in Manchester.
