A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has been commended by police for coming to the rescue of a missing child lost in the crowds at the recent Greater Manchester Marathon.

Police cadet Alicia Goodridge, from Sale, has been awarded the Volunteer Police Cadet Award at the Citizens in Policing Recognition Awards, which were held at the Hilton, Manchester Airport, on Sunday June 5.

The Altrincham Grammar School for Girls pupil was honoured with the award for finding an eight-year-old child who went missing at the Greater Manchester Marathon on April 10.

The child had got separated from her grandmother in the large crowds but Alicia managed to track her down and reunite the family.

Kate Gillibrand, from Altrincham Grammar, said: “Had it not been for Alicia’s initiative and quick thinking, the missing child might not have been found for some time which would have had serious implications on not only the child, but the family, the police, the event and other members of the public.”
