PUPILS at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls have cast their votes on whether we should stay in the EU - weeks before the national referendum.

The school held a mock referendum on April 27.

The week before the school held its ballot, members of its politics society presented assemblies to all year groups. They gave them information about what the Referendum is and arguments for both the in and out campaigns.

The week of the vote a debate was held. Girls from the politics society represented the in and out campaigns and answered questions from other pupils as well as debating with the opposing side.

On the day of the vote six ballot boxes were located around the school and 626 votes were cast by pupils and teachers.

The result was 518 people (82.7%) voted to stay in the EU, while 108 people (17.3%) voted to leave.
