ALTRINCHAM College is celebrating after their former pupil Danny Drinkwater won the Premier League against all odds with Leicester City.

The 26-year-old midfielder has made a total of 36 appearances for the club after joining them in January 2012. Leicester started the campaign as 5,000-1 outsiders for the title after almost being relegated last season before their triumphant win on Monday.

It is the first time the club have won the premier league in their 132-year history.

Headteacher Peter Brooks said: “All students and staff at Altrincham College are delighted that ex pupil Danny Drinkwater has been an essential part of the Leicester City team which this week has resulted in the fairy tale story of relative football minnows winning the Premiership Championship.

“Danny was a great lad in school who certainly loved his sport. He was not only a key member of the most successful football team we have ever had, but also played in virtually every sports team we ran – rugby, basketball, athletics - sometimes playing for the school against the advice of the Manchester United Academy where he was based.

"Danny returned to ACA only last year, giving his time to lead a coaching session for our aspiring young footballers in Years 7 and 8, held on the 3G pitch.”
