ALTRINCHAM Vs Cancer has again been ranked as one of the most successful JustGiving campaigns.

The event last month was in the top one per cent of all campaigns run on the donation website in March.

Set up by Altrincham HQ and Pure Gym Altrincham in 2014 to raise money for The Christie, the annual event has become a core focal point in the Altrincham community calendar.

A total of 28 businesses and community groups came together for the event, which saw runners cover 140km on the treadmills.

Their efforts raised nearly £3000 for The Christie, and now they are celebrating that it has been named out of 50,671 Justgiving fundraising pages as being in the top one per cent of fundraisers

Organiser Alex McCann said: "Altrincham is in our DNA. Helping others is in our DNA.

"Everything about Altrincham Vs Cancer is so hyperlocal and so focused on the local community, we often don't look at the event's wider impact outside of how Altrincham helps the Christie.

"It's a credit to Altrincham's generosity that we're named in as being in the top one per cent out of of over 50,000 fundraisers on Justgiving - Altrincham does Community and Charity with capital Cs."

For the past two years, the event has been recognised by Justgiving for being in the top three per cent of fundraisers in the UK, raising a total of about £7,500 for the South Manchester cancer treatment centre.

Altrincham Vs Cancer will be back again in March 2017.
