FOLLOWING public consultation earlier this year, Trafford Council has now formally adopted new planning guidance for its conservation areas.

There are now conservation area appraisals (CAAs)and management plans for Barton Upon Irwell Conservation Area and Linotype Estate Conservation Area together with management plans for Goose Green, George Street, Old Market Place, Stamford New Road and The Downs.

The adopted guidance includes several changes from the original draft, to reflect several of the suggestions and comments received during the consultation.

The CAAs give a brief description of the conservation area, highlighting the historical, architectural and natural environment that contribute to the area's special interest.

They form part of the process that enable conservation areas to be preserved and enhanced.

The Linotype Estate documents replace existing planning guidance from 2000.The conservation area boundary has also been extended to include The Linotype Works and the new houses in the triangular patch of land between Norman Road and Lawrence Road, Broadheath.

The management plans for Goose Green, George Street, Old Market Place, Stamford New Road and The Downs support CAAs for these areas which were adopted in October 2014.
