ALTRINCHAM Rotary Club's oldest member, Dan Donaldson, has celebrated his 90th birthday.
Dan was born in Glasgow in 1926 and attended Glasgow University where he studied chemistry.
After graduating he became an assistant lecturer at the university. He moved to Canada in 1952 for two years to do research. Returning to the UK he was a research fellow at Edinburgh University
His career took him to Dounreay from 1956 for 12 years with the Atomic Research Authority.
In 1969 he came south to work in Risley and set up home in Bowdon, with his wife and two children.
Then in 1984 he went to France to work with the French Atomic Authority before settling back in Bowdon where he travelled mainly to London before finally retiring in 1991.
Altrincham Rotary club members range from their early 30s to 90. They meet at the Cresta Court Hotel most Monday evenings.
Dan still helps in all projects including collecting money for local and international causes and the annual toys collection for families.
Dan has been an active Rotarian for more than 15 years and participates in all events.
Asked for his secret to a long life Dan puts it down to good genes, small helpings of malt whisky and an active social life.
