TWO mayors attended the Trinity Assize of Altrincham Court Leet at Altrincham Town Hall on Sunday, June 22.
They were Councillor Ejaz Malik, Mayor of Trafford, formed in 1974 and Denise Laver, Provost of the Court Leet founded in the middle ages.
Dressed in Lincoln Green, the Aldermen and Burgesses gathered to appoint four new Freemen of the Borough of Altrincham.
Ann Yearsley, Tony Collier, Gill Wootton and Dr Bill Stephens promised ‘to uphold and support the sovereign of the realm and the benefits and credit of the town of Altrincham’.
Tony, Chairman of Altrincham Chamber of Commerce, Altrincham Neighbourhood Planning and Altrincham Forward, said he was delighted to be recognised for his work.
He has raised £10,000 for the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust by running marathons worldwide.
Gill, a member of Altrincham Festival Committee for 17 years, raises money for Hale Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and volunteers front of house at Altrincham Garrick Theatre.
Dr Stephens was equally pleased: “It’s nice to be recognised for doing good for the local community.”
The Reverend Michael Hepworth, Chaplain of the Court Leet, was made an Alderman in recognition of his long service.
