I HAVE this photo from 1952 taken at Bank Street Methodist Sunday School, in Altrincham.
Bank Street itself was renamed Woodlands Road and the church was pulled down in the late 1960s I think.
The church was built in the 1880s and I particularly remember the stained glass windows – a rose window at the front facing the road and three lovely long windows behind the altar, of grapes and grapevines with ‘I am the vine, ye are the branches’, below.
I think the church was more or less run by the Wilde family who had a garage and trucks on Manchester Road.
We had wonderful Sunday School outings to Lyme Park in the back of these open trucks – no seat belts then.
I’m the third from the left on the second row. I’m sure a few of your readers will recognise themselves.
