HUNDREDS of people visited the CareerScape Exhibition at Sale Waterside to celebrate the work of children from a number of Trafford primary schools, over the summer.

CareersScape was supported by Trafford Partnership, Make Sale Smile opened by Trafford's Mayor, Cllr Jonathan Coupe.

The exhibition featured an exhibition of posters created by Year 6 pupils from Acre Hall Primary, Elmridge Primary, the Firs Primary, Highfield Primary, Wellfield Junior and Woodheys Primary schools.

Children entered the competition at the end of the Aspirations Programme, devised and delivered by Nursel Tok of We Aspire, which took Year 6 children at the schools on a journey of discovery about themselves and about the careers they could do in the future.

Children worked in groups to research their choice of careers and produced informative job posters. The best ones from each school were awarded with goody bags donated by Sale Tesco.

There were also quizzes for children to enter competitions at the exhibition, with Kate Wilson and Otis Maguire the winners of the two competitions. They have been awarded vouchers from the restaurant VAO.

At the heart of the exhibition was the “Dream Job Tree” where visitors were invited to write their name, age and dream job on a leaf which they then placed on the tree.

“The Dream Job Tree showed us that there are hundreds of children in Trafford aspiring to be vets, doctors, designers, scientists, archaeologists, performers and engineers,” said Nursel. “They need support and guidance to help them achieve their aspirations. We Aspire believe it is important to start children on their career journey at primary school, as research has shown that the absence of career-related learning until secondary school in England is a barrier to raising aspirations and equipping young people to make future decisions.”

As part of their Aspirations Programme, We Aspire organise careers fairs where children meet and question people from a variety of backgrounds about their work.

Nursel would like to hear from any schools who would like to be involved in the programme or employers who would like to be involved in the career fairs. If you are interested, please email her on info@we-aspire.co.uk or visit http://we-aspire.co.uk/

The careers fairs are well supported by local and national businesses such as Tescos, Balfour Beatty, British Gas, Laing O’Rourke, Arup, UK Fast.
