A SALE schoolgirl has leapt to more success in the world of athletics.
Fourteen-year-old Sophie Ashurst won the England Athletics under 15 pole vault title at a meeting in Bedford.
Her success comes less than two months after she won the English Schools Junior Girls pole vault.
The Sale Harrier is following in her father's. footsteps. Thirty-one years ago her dad, Andy, won the gold medal at 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
Sophie, a pupil at Sale Grammar School, cleared 3.56m to win the event. This added 1cm to her personal best and beat the championship best performance by 10cm.
Sophie is already vaulting more than 50 cms higher than her dad when he first competed in the English Schools Championship in 1979.
