TEAMS from across Trafford took part in Manchester’s biggest Race for Life event - helping to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and help beat cancer sooner.

WOMEN from Sale Tesco, Urmston Rangers and Wates, near Altrincham, were among around 7,500 ladies who took on the 5k and 10k fundraising events at Heaton Park, on July 8 and 9.

A team from Sale Tesco team all completed the 5k in honour of all those affected by cancer, while members of Urmston Rangers, which included Laura Samuel, 14, Katie Southern, 14, Megan Auld, 18, and Liz Southern, were part of a massive Girl Guiding representative from across Greater Manchester.

Staff from Wates, near Altrincham, ran under the team name Pedro’s Pink Ladies in tribute to a colleague who is currently fighting cancer: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/PAGE/pedros-pink-ladies.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life Event Manager Kirsti Thompson said: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped us raise vital funds through their sponsorship.”

Money raised through Race for Life helps Cancer Research UK to fund long-term research and pioneering trials, leading to new tests and kinder treatments which could save the lives of men, women and children across the North West and beyond.

The event hopes to raise around £450,000 for Cancer Research UK. The charity spent over £26million on research in Manchester last year.

The Heaton Park Race for Life was the fourth in this year’s Greater Manchester calendar following events at Tatton Park, Stockport and Leigh.

Laura Taylor, Race for Life North West event manager, said:“Money raised through Race for Life is helping to drive life-saving research in to over 200 different types of cancer - so every person, step and penny raised counts.

“Race for Life isn’t about being the fittest, fastest or first to the finish. It’s about coming together in the fight against this devastating disease. Our aim is that one day everyone will survive cancer and the more women who Race for Life, the sooner that day will come.
