IT was a selection of witty poems on the lines of Pam Ayres which won 68-year-old Sue Dempsey the Success Stories Storyteller of the Year Competition, on a vote by members.
The event, held at the Moorfield Hotel, Sale on Monday, June 12, was competed for by both professional and amateur performers who spoke on historic, modern and comedy themes as well as reciting poetry.
Sue, from Roebuck Lane, Sale wrote her own poems, yet only started to write two years ago.
She met Sharon Richards, founder of the Success Stories Club at a meeting of Sale Scribblers Group, and Sharon persuaded her to attend.
Sharon said: “This was only the third time Sue had performed. The great thing is that she has no idea how good she is.
Sue said: “I love performing at the storytelling club. I couldn’t believe that it was true when I woke up this morning.”
