FURTHER repairs are to take place on a main route through Altrincham - because the work that has been done isn't up to standard.

Work to bring Stamford New Road in Altrincham up to what town hall chiefs describe as the 'desired specification' is to take place in June.

Trafford Council has invested more than £3m in public realm works in Altrincham with Stamford New Road being at the heart of the proposed transformation.

Roadworks on the main route got underway in May, 2016, and caused disruption for the best part of a year until the road was finally reopened on April 15.

But now highway bosses admit the work isn't up to scratch and remedial works will have to be carried out for four or five nights from June 12.

An inspection of the completed highway revealed errors, with chippings in the tarmac of the wrong colour and type meaning the surface does not appear how it should.

Helen Jones, corporate director for economic growth, environment and infrastructure, said: “The council has invested a lot of time and money in planning and undertaking the works which will significantly improve the pedestrian and traffic flow in the area in addition to its appearance.

"Following an inspection of the final works on Stamford New Road, the council was disappointed to find that the road surface was not completed to the agreed standard with the contractor meaning the long-awaited unveiling didn’t have the desired high impact we expected.

"While this will mean some further short-term disruption, it is important that it is right.”

The works will take place over four or five nights from June 12 and will coincide with works on Stamford New Road which BT is doing to install superfast Broadband.
