KATE Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, visited children at Davyhulme Primary School to present prizes to children who took part in a toothbrush design competition.

The competition took place when Year 5 pupils at Davyhulme visited Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) to take part in the club’s Healthy Hearts workshop, designed to instil heart-healthy lifestyle habits in young people.

The workshops consist of a variety of activities to promote healthy living from making fruit kebabs to games of kwik cricket.

Davyhulme Primary’s participation in the workshop was made possible by dental practice Revive Dental Care who sponsored the school to undertake the programme and have worked with the LCCC Foundation to incorporate oral health into the Healthy Heart programme, given the clear link between oral and heart disease.

In December, Ms Green visited LCCC to see the success of the Healthy Hearts programme and introduced Revive to Davyhulme Primary to suggest that they take part in the project.

Revive donated the first prize in the competition, a £50 electric toothbrush, while LCCC Foundation donated the runner up prize of tickets to T20 cricket.

Revive Dental Care and LCCC are planning further workshops to improve the Oral Health of our local children in Greater Manchester and Salford.

Ms Green presented the winning prize to Amelia Allport for her winning toothbrush design “Mr Smiles” and the runner up prize to Lily May, for her toothbrush design “Tyger Lily”.

Ms Green said: “It was lovely to visit Davyhulme Primary to present the winner and runner up of the toothbrush design competition with their prizes - I was really impressed by the creativeness of both designs.

“Healthy Hearts is a fabulous initiative – a great way for local children to learn about healthy lifestyles in a fun and interactive setting.

“I’m really pleased that Revive Dental Care are making a positive contribution to the local community by funding local schools to take part in Healthy Hearts.

“I’d like to thank Revive and the LCCC Foundation for making this happen and look forward to working with them in the future.”
