ROTARIANS from all over Trafford are celebrating World Rotary Day today, February 23.

It was on this day in 1905 that Rotary International was founded in Chicago by Paul Harris, a businessman who wanted to do some good in the community.

Today there are more than 1.2 million Rotarians in 34000 Clubs in over 200 countries and territories worldwide, whose motto is 'Service Above Self ', and is the biggest non profit charity in the world.

Both Altrincham Rotary Club, established 1929 ,and Sale Rotary Club, founded in 1934, will be celebrating this event.

Both clubs are active in the area helping in various schemes raising money and doing charitable and educational work to help others.

The Altrincham Club has provided more than 15000 crocus corms which have been planted to brighten up the town in places such as John Leigh Park.

This is the year of the 'Purple4polio' campaign, to eradicate polio across the world, and donations have been received by rotary clubs all over the country.

A'Purple4Polio' spring ball has been organised on April 27 at the Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham, to raise money for this and two other charities.
