MULTI-skills sports festivals for neighouring primary schools continue to go from strength to strength at Flixton Girls School.

Flixton's 'cluster' primary schools - Woodhouse Primary, Abbotsford Prep, Flixton Infants, Urmston Infants and St Mary’s Primary - all form part of the Trafford School Sports Partnership.

They are invited to participate in each event and bring along their entire year group. The Year 1 outdoor event kicked off the fixtures in November, followed closely by the year 2 indoor event.

All events are planned and delivered by Kay Statham, the sports development manager and PE Teacher Belinda Cashin, with the support of the school's Year 7 and 8 sports leaders. The students attended after school leadership club ahead of preparing their activities for the primary school groups.

During each event the pupils take part in 10 different skills stations to develop a range of skills including balance, agility and co-ordination.

Flixton students assist each group through the sessions ensuring they get one to one guidance on completion of each activity.

Hannah Jones, Year 8, said: "It was really nice helping the younger children and guiding them through the bowling and golfing activities. I really enjoyed helping them complete each of the challenges and seeing them succeed."

Flixton's next event will be a Year 3 football festival planned for March.
