EXISTING and aspiring businessowners in Trafford’s rural areas could see their dreams become a reality thanks to a European Union-funded development programme.

Funding has become available for businesses in Dunham Massey and Warburton through the LEADER Programme.

The initiative aims to help create jobs and stimulate economic growth by providing funding for businesses and organisations looking to launch or expand in rural areas.

Trafford Council’s strategic growth team is offering help with the application process.

The council is organising a drop-in event at Dunham Massey Village Hall on Thursday February 9 for interested businesses.

Cllr John Reilly, executive member for economic growth, environment and infrastructure, said: “The event will give attended an opportunity to explore the possibility of receiving funding and have an opportunity to discuss business expansion or diversification ideas. The aim is to promote the local economy, leading to increased business growth and prosperity.

“I would encourage all of our rural businesses to attend and establish if your business is eligible for assistance. All of the key business support agencies will be on hand providing expert advice and assistance. In some cases the application can even be made on your behalf, reducing the administrative burden.”

Dunham Massey Ice Cream was recently given the go ahead to develop their Station Road site following from a £125,000 successful grant application to the rural LEADER fund.

The ice cream company will create a bespoke ice cream parlour, generating up to seven new jobs, and revamp the existing barn.

£1,260,176 of grant funding is available in Cheshire West and Warrington, which includes the Dunham Massey area. The minimum grant available is £2,500.

The drop-in event will take place from 9-11am.
