SALE has got behind the family of a man who is critically ill in a Chinese hospital – donating more than £17,000 towards his enormous medical bills.

Adam Henshall Jones, from Sale, is recovering from brain surgery after collapsing while out shopping with his wife Zhiyuan Geng on Friday October 7.

The 29-year-old had suffered from severe headaches most of his life and after being rushed to hospital after last week’s fall, a scan revealed three blood clots on his brain.

Adam, a former Tyntesfield Primary School Ashton on Mersey School pupil, underwent an operation but doctors have warned his devastated family his illness could be life-changing.

The English teacher and his wife, who have been married to for the four years, were making plans to move back to the UK after spending the past eighteen months living and working in China.

However, with the absence of health insurance or a national health service, all of the couple’s savings have been eaten away by lengthy medical bills following the tragic event.

Sister-in-law Kate Henshall Jones, who is married to Adam’s brother David, set up a Just Giving page to raise much needed funds to cover hospital costs, which will be upwards of £30,000.

In just six days, half of this figure has been reached, with one generous anonymous donator pledging £1,000.

“We also would like to thank all the donators and people who have shared our story. It restores your faith in humanity,” said Kate.

Adam was taken back into intensive care on Tuesday after suffering seizures when his tube was taken out.

However, there was an improvement on Wednesday and Kate said he even tried to ‘crack a joke’ and reach out to his wife for a hug.

His parents, Carl and Karen, flew out to him on Wednesday night.

“This has given us so much hope,” said Kate.

“The British consulate are advising us on how to get Adam home when he's recovered.

“The recovery from this first operation is three months so you can imagine the spiralling costs his parents are facing. It's a living nightmare for us all. We would appreciate any help.”
