ALTRINCHAM'S Rebecca Jeffery survived the second episode of the BBC's The Apprentice - in a week when there were no winners.

Neither the men's or women's team emerged from the advertising task set them with any credit although there was a positive acknowledgement for Rebecca from Lord Sugar.

The teams had to come up with an advertising campaign for Japanese denim jeans.

But at the end of the task, Lord Sugar refused to pick a winner and said: "Both these advertising campaigns are absolutely useless."

There was some consolation for marketing boss Rebecca, though. She had put herself as project manager but missed out on a dubious vote.

Later, Lord Sugar said: "Rebecca should have been the project manager."

The teams had to come up with TV and bus shelter advertising and packaging for the jeans.

The women left a vital item behind, though, when they sent to do the TV advert - the jeans. It seems someone had put them down and forgot to pick them up.

They were later retrieved and the advert was filmed, although both Karren Brady and Lord Sugar questioned why they had chosen to shoot it in a toilet.

The men's advert featured a young man and a young woman wearing the jeans. The idea was for it to be a unisex product, although it became clear as they tried to explain it to advertising bosses they were pitching to that they didn't understand the concept of unisex clothing.

Lord Sugar was also not happy with the bus shelter adverts. He said: ""You wait ages for a terrible bus shelter advert, and two come along at the same time."

Rebecca avoided being one of the six candidates that were called back into the board room to face the threat of dismissal. Lord Sugar fired hair and beauty salon owner Natalie Hughes, who was criticised for failing to step up during the first two weeks of the process.

But earlier he told the candidates: "You had better up your game because I am terribly disappointed with what I have seen today."
