MINDLESS vandals wreaked havoc in a Partington park on Friday, torching and destroying play equipment.

Youths were spotted setting fire to a slide and recycling bin in play ground in Cross Lane Park, Cross Lane East, on September 23.

Fire crews were called to tackle the fires at around 10.30pm.

The Friends of Cross Lane Park have condemned the acts. On the group’s Facebook page, they branded the behaviour ‘shocking’ and said a nearby fence from a disabled couple’s garden had been damaged during the spree.

Residents also took to social media to slam the ‘disrespectful’ and ‘disgusting’ vandalism.

According to reports, two boys, aged 14 or 15, were seen running from the playpark after the blaze broke out. One was wearing a grey or white t shirt, grey bottoms, a black cap, and a black strap bag across his shoulder.

The second boy other was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, with a red and blue coat.

It is believed they were having a party in the park with several other boys when the fires were started.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101.
