PARK Road Primary School is now home to a number of budding scientists after inspirational parents and experts taught them to dream big.

Children at the Sale primary enjoyed a day dedicated to all things science to celebrate Manchester being the 2016 European City of Science.

On Wednesday July 6, several parents came to the school to share their scientific knowledge, as well some other experts in their fields.

The day began in the assembly hall with a talk by Vicky Rosin, who oversees the European Science Forum, including the Science in the City Programme. Dr Sam Illingworth, who combines science and poetry, then sang his Science Share song with the children.

Next up was a chemistry show from "Chemistry with Cabbage", where the pupils learned how to do a variety of experiments with items they can find at home, including red cabbages.

The children broke into their different classes and enjoyed a wide range of scientific talks and experiments. Some of the lessons included; forensic science with fingerprinting, exploring the human skeleton with school parent Dr Hazel Swindles; and Jellies for Curing Body Injuries, with school mum Mi Zhou.

Various other talks given by various wonderful parents included; Disease and Medicine, Transport Systems, Geodes, Scientific Measurements, Being a Scientist, Renewable Energy, and Being a Scientist.

The younger children did not miss out either, with Reception learning all about wheat milling and separating, and Nursery enjoying a Bubble science-themed day.

Staff said the children had a 'wonderful time' and were 'very interested, engaged and entertained all day'.
