A DANCING duo will have an extra spring in their step today as they celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss.

John and Sheila Beswick, aged 82 and 83 respectively, mark their Diamond Wedding Anniversary today, Thursday July 21.

The Timperley couple met through friends at a Metrovicks day out in Blackpool aged 21 and 20 and married at St Joseph’s RC Church in Sale two years later.

“I had a lot of boyfriends called John and when I met him I thought, ‘oh no, not another one’ – but I have stuck with this one,” laughed Sheila.

The newlyweds went on to have one son, Stephen, and now have two grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew.

John will be a familiar face to many Altrincham natives, having been a manager and buyer at the now defunct Taylor and Cross for more than 50 years.

The pair share a love for dancing and are still active in the area. Both enjoyed ballroom dancing as teens and still hit the dancefloor twice a week at the Lark Hill Centre in Timperley.

“We do it for the sheer pleasure,” said Sheila.

To celebrate their marital milestone, John and Sheila will be having a family meal on Thursday and have a party planned for their friends on Friday night.

When asked about the secret to a long and successful marriage, the pair put it down to ‘a good sense of humour and having someone that makes you laugh’.

“You just stick together thrown thick and thin,” added Sheila.
