A 58-YEAR-OLD woman had to be rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out at her Urmston home.

Three engines from Stretford, Sale and Eccles were scrambled to a house on Dover Park on Tuesday July 12 at around 8.30pm.

On arrival, crews found a woman inside the smoke-logged semi-detached bungalow and rescued her. The woman, who was having breathing problems, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters used hose reels to put the fire out. It is believed the blaze was started accidently in the kitchen.

Cllr David Action, chair of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, said: “The property where the fire took hold didn’t have working smoke alarms. Having a smoke alarm gives you an early warning to a fire in your home and we encourage everyone to ensure they have a working smoke alarm on every floor – and test them regularly to make sure they work.”

Staff from the fire and rescue service returned to Dover Park yesterday to reassure residents and make bookings for Sale and Well visits.
